The collaboration between the two artists is inspired by South Main’s place as the region’s railroad hub throughout the early 19th century and by both artists’ family history in working with railroads. Hayes worked as a railroad man for more than 40 years, following in the footsteps of his father who worked the rails for 42 years. Marshall’s grandfather worked for L&N Railroad which galvanized his interest in, and artwork on, trains.
